Hit-and-run wreck on Mississippi interstate turns into officer-involved shooting

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is conducting a probe into an officer-involved shooting that occurred on October 15, 2024, involving the Jackson Police Department.

The incident began when Jackson Police officers responded to a call on Interstate 220 regarding a hit-and-run where shots were fired, striking a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the driver of the damaged vehicle and observed the suspect attempting to flee the scene.

According to preliminary reports, the suspect then presented a weapon towards the officers, prompting them to discharge their firearms. The suspect sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while no serious injuries were reported among the officers involved.

This marks the 24th officer-involved shooting in Mississippi this year.
