Mississippi high school student dies in car wreck

A Mississippi high school student died in a car wreck Monday morning.

Callie Pounders, a student at Corinth High School, died in a one-car accident that occurred shortly before 7:30 a.m. Monday.

Deputies report that Pounders hit a tree when she tried to overcorrect after running off the road.

Pounders was taken to the Magnolia Regional Health Center, where she died.

The Corinth School District released a statement Monday morning.

“In times like these, we must continue to come together and support each other as the Corinth Community,” the statement read.

The school district will have counselors available to help students and staff throughout the week.
