A Mississippi man died Friday evening after being trapped in a vehicle involved in a two-car wreck .

The victim, identified as Dennis Darrell Jackson of Florence, was extricated from the vehicle but later died of the injuries suffered in the wreck.

Officials report that the wreck occurred on Florence-Byram Road and Long Drive in Rankin County shortly before 6:30 p.m. Friday.

When emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they discovered two people trapped in one of the vehicles involved in the crash. Both victims had to be extricated from the vehicle. Jackson died shortly after being rescued from the wreckage.

The second victim was transported in critical condition to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

The crash is being investigated bt the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department.
