An 11-year-old boy died after a vehicle driven by a 16-year-old overturned on a rural Mississippi road Saturday afternoon,
Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart confirmed the death in the one-vehicle accident on Moncure Marble Road in Terry.
The crash occurred around 3 p.m. when a 16-year-old driving a 2007 Cadillac CTS lost control of the vehicle. The car ran off the road and overturned, carrying two 11-year-old passengers.
A press release from authorities stated that one 11-year-old passenger was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. The coroner identified the victim as Liam Hunter.
The driver and the second 11-year-old passenger were transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center by private vehicle. Their injuries and conditions have not been disclosed.
Officials have not released further details about the cause of the crash. Investigators are working to determine the circumstances leading to the tragic incident.
