Monday evening house fire claims life of Mississippi woman

A 31-year-old Mississippi woman lost her life Monday evening in a house fire, authorities said.
WLBT News in Jackson reports that Shiquira Maniel was found unresponsive in the bathtub of her Vicksburg house after firefighters responded to the blaze around 6:11 p.m., Fire Chief Derrick Stamps confirmed.
The Vicksburg Fire Department received an urgent call reporting a structure fire with two people reportedly trapped inside. Upon arrival, firefighters entered the burning home to search for the occupants.
Despite their efforts, Maniel did not survive. The condition of the second individual has not been disclosed.
After an intense battle, crews extinguished the flames and brought the fire under control.
“The Vicksburg Fire Department extends its heartfelt condolences to the family during this unimaginably difficult time,” Stamps said in a statement.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
