A man was shot and killed outside the Pearl River County Chancery Courthouse on Tuesday, authorities confirmed.
James Ray Saucier, the victim, was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:47 p.m. Emergency responders were unable to revive him after he was shot multiple times outside the courthouse, Sheriff David Allison said.
Tanya Saucier, identified as the suspect, is currently in custody. According to authorities, the couple had attended a divorce hearing earlier that day, which concluded before noon. Tanya reportedly waited in her car until James exited the courthouse before the shooting occurred.
“We are working closely with the District Attorney’s office to file charges,” Allison said. “This is an awful outcome, and we want to lift the family in prayer.”
Pearl River County Coroner Derek Turnage confirmed that James Saucier suffered multiple gunshot wounds. An autopsy is scheduled for later this week in Biloxi.
Allison expressed gratitude to first responders and courthouse staff for their quick actions in the aftermath of the shooting.
