Authorities are investigating a disturbing incident at a Mississippi horse stable where two horses were shot, leaving one dead and the other injured.

WLBT in Jackson reports that Madison police officers responded to the Reunion Horse Stables following reports of the shooting, which is believed to have occurred between 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

One horse died at the scene, while the other was transported to a local veterinary clinic and is expected to recover.

The Madison Police Department is asking anyone with information about this incident to contact them at (601) 856-6111 and request to speak with an investigator.
