Police: Woman who died after falling off Mississippi River bluff was murdered. Man arrested in case.

Police say a woman who died after falling off a high bluff overlooking the Mississippi River was murdered.

The Natchez Democrat reports that Corted Kildrick Smith, 51, has been charged with the murder of Jacqueline Denise Scott, 39, of Ferriday, Louisiana.

Scott died on Sunday after falling from the bluff in Natchez.

Natchez Police Chief Caroline Green said Scott fell from the bluff near Clifton Avenue at approximately 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22.

Adams County Coroner James Lee reported he received a call on Sunday at approximately 9:35 p.m. about the incident. He said Scott fell between 50 to 70 feet to her death.

Smith is being held without bond pending arraignment.

Police said the incident is still under investigation and that they would not release any other details from the case,
