Two Mississippians were among the victims killed in a devastating terrorist attack in New Orleans, leaving their families, friends, and the state in mourning.

Governor Tate Reeves (R-Miss.) confirmed the deaths of Nikyra Dedeaux, 18, and Matthew Tenedorio, 25, both of Mississippi, as he urged residents to pray for the victims and their families. “Please join Elee and me in praying for Mississippians Nikyra Dedeaux and Matthew Tenedorio, who were tragically killed during the terrorist attack in New Orleans. Mississippi will never forget them,” Reeves said in a statement.

Dedeaux, a young woman from Mississippi, was struck by a vehicle while celebrating New Year’s Eve with friends on Bourbon Street.

Tenedorio, an audiovisual technician for the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, was fatally shot during the attack. A GoFundMe page set up to support his family described him as a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend. “Matthew was known for his laid-back spirit and infectious laughter, bringing joy to everyone around him,” the page reads.

Governor Reeves also noted that Mississippi law enforcement officers have been deployed to assist New Orleans authorities following the attack. “We will continue to pray for the victims and their families. We will continue to pray for our law enforcement and first responders all over America! And we will continue to assist our friends in any way we can,” Reeves said.

As investigations continue, the state of Mississippi mourns the loss of these two young lives, with tributes pouring in from across the country.
