A severe storm turned deadly Tuesday when a tree fell onto a passing car on the Natchez Trace Parkway, killing the driver.

According to Madison County Deputy Coroner Joel Shows, 63-year-old Paul Hardin of Madison County was traveling along the scenic roadway when the tree came down, striking his vehicle.

The accident occurred just a mile north of Highway 43.

Severe weather swept through the region at the time of the accident, bringing strong winds and heavy rain.

The incident remains under investigation.
