A Jackson man was arrested earlier this month after leading police on a high-speed motorcycle chase that stretched from Rankin County nearly to Newton County.
According to the Richland Police Department, officers attempted to stop a motorcycle on Interstate 20 near Highway 49 around 1 a.m. on April 2 after noticing it did not have a license plate. The rider, identified as 46-year-old Michael Shane Dickerson, refused to stop, prompting a pursuit eastbound on I-20.
Investigators say the chase continued for several counties before Dickerson pulled onto the shoulder of the interstate. When officers exited their patrol vehicles to make contact, Dickerson attempted to flee once again. Police were able to physically remove him from the motorcycle and take him into custody.
Following the arrest, officers discovered nearly 30 grams of methamphetamine in Dickerson’s possession. Authorities also noted that Dickerson has an extensive criminal record, with more than 20 prior arrests, including 11 felonies.
In addition to the current charges stemming from the chase, Dickerson was already wanted by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office for trafficking a controlled substance and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Dickerson is currently being held as the investigation continues.
