A 25-year-old Mississippi man drowned Saturday afternoon while boating on the Barnett Reservoir.

Family members identified the victim as Jordan Willis, of Mendenhall. Witnesses reported that Willis jumped from the back of a pontoon boat into the water, unaware of its depth, and failed to resurface.

The incident occurred between Ratliff Ferry and Coal Bluff. After an extensive response from multiple agencies — including the Reservoir Police, Rankin County Emergency Operations Center, and Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks — investigators ruled the death accidental.
