A Mississippi woman is in custody after police say she was driving under the influence when she struck a child with her vehicle Saturday evening in a Pearl neighborhood.
Pearl Police officers responded to Pine Circle Drive around 8 p.m. on May 3 after receiving reports that a child had been hit by a car. Officers arrived within seconds, quickly detaining the driver and rendering aid to the injured child.
The driver, identified as 22-year-old Ty’Kisalyn Towner of Forest, Mississippi, was determined to be impaired at the time of the incident. Police also discovered she had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear and was in possession of drug paraphernalia.
Towner was arrested and charged with first-offense DUI, simple assault on a minor, possession of paraphernalia, and the outstanding warrant.
The child was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover.
