The Brookhaven School District has announced that the first day of school will be delayed until Aug. 31.
On Tuesday, the Brookhaven School District held its regularly scheduled school board meeting to discuss whether the district should postpone the beginning of school. After discussing the matter, the starting date was moved from Aug. 6 to Aug. 31.
“It’s a fluid situation and we need to stay flexible,” Superintendent Roderick Henderson said at the meeting. “It would allow us to further prepare ourselves and benefit the district.”
Preschool for students ages 3 and 4 will still begin Aug. 6 as planned.
The exact details for starting school back for grades K-12 have yet to be released, but will be released by the district before Aug. 31.
“I think this may be the best decision for us,” Henderson said.
