The latest: Mississippi reports higher-than-average new coronavirus cases

Mississippi reported an increase over the trailing averages in new COVID-19 coronavirus cases Wednesday along with more than 20 additional deaths.
On Wednesday, the state reported 711 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours.
The state also reported 22 new deaths Wednesday. Six of the deaths reported Wednesday actually occurred between August 23 and September 9.
In total, 91,234 cases have been found in the state since March. The state believes approximately 79,000 of those cases have recovered.
A total of 2,756 people in Mississippi have died as a result of coronavirus, the state reported.
The 7-day, daily average of new cases rose to 490 with Wednesday’s update.
The 14-day, daily average dropped to 491 cases per day.
Totals of all reported COVID-19 cases for 2020, including those in long-term care (LTC) facilities.
