Mississippi Skies: Potential for severe weather increasing

Published 11:23 pm Tuesday, December 5, 2023

The severe weather risk we’ve been watching for the upcoming weekend now expands across most of the state.

Right now, a Level 2 risk covers the Mississippi River communities from the Delta to Vicksburg to Natchez. It also includes Greenwood to Yazoo City to Jackson to McComb to Brookhaven. A Level 1 risk stretches to the Alabama state line and down to the Pine Belt.

It seems all modes of severe weather will be possible, but we don’t know the exact timing and exact risk yet. Models are beginning to agree any severe storms should be Saturday afternoon into Saturday night.
