The mother of a 1-year-old baby who was reportedly beaten so badly that it died from its injuries at a Mississippi hospital has turned herself in to authorities.
Officials from the Jackson Police Department report that Yolanda Hunter has been charged with felony child abuse in the case. Hunter turned herself in to the police after an arrest warrant was issued Friday morning.
Hunter is the mother of a baby who was rushed to the University of Mississippi Medical Center Thursday after being found unresponsive. The baby showed that it had suffered “massive amounts of trauma” and had bruises all over its body.
Police are also searching for Herman Coleman, also known as Herman Arthur Gardner, 33. He is also accused of felony child abuse in the case.
Once autopsy results are released, authorities expect that the charges against Hunter and Coleman will be upgraded to capital murder.
