A man is recovering from injuries he received when he was shot while stopped at an intersection.
According to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were sent to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus Saturday night about 10:40 p.m.
It was reported by the sheriff’s office that a witness told them the victim got off work about 10 p.m. and was driving on Casey Lane. He was stopped at a stop sign at Casey Lane and Yorkville Road East when a white four-door sedan stopped in front of them. The witness told officers a person started shooting at the victim.
“Multiple shots were fired from a passenger window of the white vehicle, striking the front windshield of the victim’s car,” a release reads. “A bullet entered the front windshield and went through the victim’s cellphone, which was mounted on the dash at the time. Shrapnel from the phone hit the victim in the face causing several scratches and an unknown foreign object to be lodged in his face below his right eye. The victim drove himself home and then had his cousin drive him to the hospital in the victim’s car. The vehicle was inspected by detectives at the hospital and found to have several bullet holes in the vehicle.”
Deputies went to the scene of the incident where glass from the victim’s vehicle and a .223 shell casing was found.
The victim was unable to give many details about the suspect’s vehicle in this case other than it was a white sedan.
Detectives are working to find additional witnesses and evidence related to this shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call 662-328-6788.
