A Mississippi man was arrested Wednesday evening after a high-speed chase with deputies ended with a dramatic three-car collision.
The multi-car crash happened just before 7 p.m. at the intersection of Military Road and the on-ramp to Hwy 82, following the vehicle’s failure to stop for deputies.
Deputies with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics STING Unit initiated the pursuit of the vehicle after it was spotted near 18th Avenue and Military Road.
The chase ended with a head-on collision, and the vehicle then struck a second vehicle before coming to a rest.
The driver then ran from the crash site to a nearby Comfort Inn & Suites, where he ran up to the third floor before deputies apprehended him.
The driver was identified as 33-year-old Joshua Wilson of Columbus. Illegal drugs were found in the vehicle, and now Wilson faces charges including no tag, felony fleeing and felony possession of controlled substances (THC edibles).
As a result of the accident, Wilson complained of a shoulder injury and was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle, where he was treated and released.
Wilson is in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center awaiting his initial appearance.
