A downtown Mississippi mural affectionately known as “Sprite Boy” is getting a facelift.

The Vicksburg Post reports that artist Quinn McClung says his work will be finished in as early as a few weeks, depending on the weather.

The beloved mural features a character that was highlighted in many murals and advertising campaigns across the country. The Sprite Boy was usually rendered as a head and hands with a bottle cap for a hat. The character was usually surrounded by stars that represented his sparkling personality.

McClung said, while he has personally done all of the painting for the mural’s new look, his employer Stuart Green, owner of DIMCO Inc. in Vicksburg, has provided the funding and man hours to make the new artwork possible.

The “Sprite Boy” mural is located on the north wall of 61 South coffee shop and The Attic Gallery.
