A man who reportedly killed his mother and two sisters in Mississippi on Mother’s day was killed in a gunfight in Arizona, officials said.
Ivory James Welch III was reportedly shot and killed in a gunfight with Arizona State Troopers Monday, one day after Welch reportedly shot and killed his mother, Ida Thomas Welch, 76, and two sisters, Vicky Renee Welch, 56, and Crystal Lynn Welch, 42, in Ridgeland.
Officials with the Ridgeland Police Department received a call about a triple homicide around 3:30 p.m. Sunday. The shooting occurred on Old Canton Road south of Rice Road. The three victims were found dead in the living room of a home.
After a brief investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Ivory Welch. The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force began searching for Welch, who managed to get to Arizona before he was located by Arizona State Troopers.
Troopers attempted to apprehend Welch when he fired upon the troopers. Troopers returned fire and fatally wounded Welch in a shootout.
