Travelers craving those Beaver nuggets from Mississippi’s first-ever Buc-ee’s will have to wait a little longer than expected.

According to a report in the Biloxi Sun Herald, the highly anticipated Mississippi Gulf Coast location has postponed its opening until next year.

The $50 million store in Harrison County is now scheduled to open in summer 2025, a shift from the originally planned spring 2025 opening and the more recent projection of November 2024.

The delay coincides with extensive roadwork along Interstate 10, aimed at accommodating the expected surge in traffic typical of Buc-ee’s locations nationwide. Harrison County has allocated $15 million to upgrade the Menge Avenue exit to support Buc-ee’s and other future developments around the massive convenience store. Additionally, I-10 is being expanded from four to six lanes through Harrison and Hancock counties to the Louisiana state line, funded by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021.

Once completed, Mississippi’s first Buc-ee’s will be one of the largest in the chain, featuring a 74,000-square-foot store, 120 fueling positions, 24 EV charging stations, and a car wash. This location is part of Buc-ee’s broader expansion into eight states, including North Carolina, Colorado, Louisiana, Missouri, Ohio, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Despite the delay, the excitement for Buc-ee’s expansive new site continues to build as the company prepares to bring its renowned convenience store experience to Mississippi.
