Mississippi man charged with arson, after reportedly setting boat on fire

A Mississippi man has been arrested after police say he reportedly set a boat on fire.

WLOX in Biloxi reports that Harrison County firefighters responded to a structure fire on Summerhaven Circle in Gulfport on May 20.

After investigation, firefighters determined that a boat on the property was set on fire, spreading to a nearby residence. The occupants of the house were able to escape the house without injury.

Alcide Joseph Toup, 54, of Gulfport, was identified as a suspect and later arrested on a felony charge of arson in the case.

Toups was booked into the Harrison County Adult Detention Center Facility and charged with one count of arson.

He is being held in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
