A Mississippi town of less than 1,000 people has experienced four homicides in just one month — a statistic that has residents and authorities shocked and concerned.

In the month of May, Woodville, a small town with a population of 869 people, has experienced four fatal shootings. Three of the shootings occurred on the same street, with the fourth happening nearby.

On May 22, police responded to the report of a death on First West Street North at approximately 6 a.m. When they arrived at the scene, officers found a black male who was lying on the side of the road unresponsive. Identified as Henry Dyer, of Woodville, the man was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency responders attempted to provide life-saving measures.

Three days later, on May 25, Woodville police officers responded to a vehicle accident on First West Street North at approximately 7 a.m.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a white Toyota Corolla which had lost control and collided with a residence. Upon further inspection, officers found a juvenile inside the vehicle who was unresponsive from what appeared to be a gunshot wound. The juvenile was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two homicides bring the total to four in the month of May. Three of the four shooting deaths occurred on First West Street and the fourth happened on First South Street, just a short distance from First West Street.

A fifth death happened outside the city limits in Wilkinson County near the intersection of highways 24 and 33 in nearby Centreville.

All five deaths have been the result of gunshot wounds No suspects have been arrested in any of the incidents.
