Child playing with mom in Mississippi park injured as gun toting assailants steal family car

A three-year-old child playing in a Mississippi park was injured during an armed robbery Saturday.

Jackson police report that the child and his mother were playing at Jayne Avenue Park when two people approached the family and then held the victims at gunpoint.

The child sustained head injuries after the assailants demanded the family’s belongings and then stole their vehicle.

Police say the child, who was responsive at the scene, was taken to a local hospital.

Police say the suspects were driving a black four-door vehicle believed to be a Chrysler 200. The victim’s vehicle is a white 2006 Chevy Impala bearing tag number HPU 633.

The names of the victims and suspects have not been released.

Jackson Police are investigating this as an armed robbery, aggravated assault, and auto theft.
