A Mississippi man has been charged with murdering his roommate.

WTVA in Tupelo reports that Jesse Newton, 40, of Marietta, was originally charged with aggravated assault after his roommate, David Dunnagan, 57, also of Marietta, was found severely beaten in his apartment in Prentiss County.

Officials with the Prentiss County Sheriff’s Office report that Dunnagan was admitted to a local hospital with multiple injuries, including a severe head injury.

Newton reportedly attacked Dunnagan on Friday, July 19, in the apartment.

Officials say Dunnagan was put on life support until he died on Monday afternoon.

Newton’s charges have been upgraded to first-degree murder.
