Four Mississippi schools have earned the prestigious 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools designation from the U.S. Department of Education, a recognition given to schools excelling in academic performance or making significant progress in closing achievement gaps.

The schools recognized are:

• Exemplary High Performing Schools:
  • Magnolia Park Elementary School (Ocean Springs School District)
  • Mannsdale Upper Elementary School (Madison County School District)
• Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing Schools:
  • Ripley High School (South Tippah School District)
  • Stone Elementary School (Stone County School District)

Dr. Lance Evans, Mississippi’s state superintendent of education, praised the schools’ hard work and dedication, stating, “The Mississippi Department of Education applauds their intentional focus on best practices for academic and professional success.”

National Blue Ribbon Schools are acknowledged for their strong leadership, effective teaching methods, and collaborative efforts involving families, communities, and educators. U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona highlighted the significance of the award, saying it “serves as a testament to the exceptional achievements of students and educators.”

Each year, up to 420 schools across the nation can receive this honor, based on student performance data, including test scores and graduation rates. The recognition affirms Mississippi’s commitment to improving education for all students.
