A Mississippi man was sentenced to life in prison after he pleaded guilty to killing his roommate at halfway house for individuals recovering from drug addictions.
WLOX News in Biloxi reports that Christopher Moore, 44, of Gulfport, pleaded guilty to killing 63-year-old Darrell Parker in August of 2022.
On Aug. 3, 2022, Gulfport Police investigated a stabbing at a halfway house on St. Charles Street in Gulfport.
Moore and Parker were roommates, along with others, at the halfway house.
When they arrived on the scene, officers found Parker lying in the kitchen with multiple stab wounds to the head, back and chest. They also found two broken knives next to the body and a third knife in a trash can.
Witnesses reportedly told investigators that they saw Moore behind Parker with his arms around his neck, stabbing him repeatedly while holding him in a headlock.
Moore reportedly tried to defend his actions, saying they were done in self-defense.
After accepting a guilty plea on the charge of first-degree murder, Circuit Court Judge Lisa Dodson sentenced Moore to a life sentence in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
