Mississippi home invasion ends with deadly shootout, officials report

One person is dead after a home invasion of a Mississippi residence resulted in a shootout with the homeowner, officials said.

The Tunica County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call shortly after 1 a.m. Friday from a resident reporting a home invasion on Beatline Road in Tunica.

The caller said that gunfire was exchanged and that two people had been shot.

Deputies found the homeowner suffering from a gunshot wound and another gunshot victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The homeowner was airlifted to a regional hospital to be treated for injuries suffered in the shootout,

The deceased victim was identified as Nadarius Joiner, 30, of Tunica.

Officials with the sheriff’s department report that no arrests have been made in the case because homeowners have a constitutional right to protect their house when invaded,

The Tunica Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident.
