A Mississippi woman who was riding on the back of a motorcycle with her husband was killed in a tragic motorcycle accident on Wednesday.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol reports that the accident occurred around noon on Interstate 20 near the 28-mile marker.

William Owens III, 27, was driving a 2022 Harley Davidson with his wife, 24-year-old Desiree Owens, as a passenger when the motorcycle veered off the road and struck a cable barrier.

Desiree Owens suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. William Owens was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center with injuries, though the extent of his condition remains unknown.

The Owens couple, both residents of Redwood, Mississippi, had been traveling westbound on I-20 at the time of the crash. Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident.
