Authorities are investigating the discovery of a vehicle found submerged in the Ross Barnett Reservoir that had been reported stolen 15 years ago.

On Thursday afternoon, the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department’s Criminal Investigations Division with the Reservoir Police Department to the scene near Lake Harbor Road.

Divers from the Reservoir Fire Department located a black 2008 Ford Mustang approximately 50 yards from the roadway, submerged in about 15 feet of water.

Upon inspection, investigators confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen by the Richland Police Department in 2009. The Mustang has since been retrieved from the reservoir and transported to a secure location for further examination.
