A Mississippi man is lucky to be alive after being shot three times — including once in the head.

The Natchez Democrat reports that Je’mario Clay, 23, is recovering in a Jackson hospital after an altercation turned violent Sunday afternoon.

Officials from the Natchez Police Department say the altercation occurred early Sunday afternoon on Daisy Street near George F. West Boulevard in Natchez.

Police chief Cal Green said that Clay is only alive “because of the grace of God.” after he was shot in the hand, a bullet grazed his arm, and then he was shot in the head.

Green said a suspect had been identified in the case and that the investigation of the shooting continues.

Clay was transferred from a local hospital to a Jackson facility for observation.
