Two Mississippi police officers have been placed on administrative leave after they reportedly passed by a deadly crash without rendering aid.
Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade said the two officers passed the scene of the crash on Cooper Road and Suncrest Drive shortly after it occurred at 5 a.m. Saturday.
The chief said a red Cadillac SUV was traveling south on Suncrest Drive when it left the road, crashed into a tree at the corner of Suncrest Drive and Cooper Road, and caught fire.
Tina Carter Sawyer, 35, the driver of the vehicle, died during the accident.
Wade questioned the officers’ inaction and said the incident is under investigation by the JPD Internal Affairs investigation.
The case will be turned over to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations, and the findings will be handed over to the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
