A Mississippi deputy coroner faces up to ten years in jail for allegedly using a county-issued gas card for his own personal use.

Coahoma County Deputy Coroner Markeith Mosley has been arrested and charged with one count of embezzlement, State Auditor Shad White announced.

Special Agents from the State Auditor’s Office allege that Mosley fraudulently used a county-issued Fuelman card for personal gain. The card, which Mosley had access to through his position with the county, was misused between June 2021 and November 2023, according to the Auditor’s Office.

“We will continue to hold the line when it comes to fraud, whether it be big or small,” said White in a statement. “We will continue to work with prosecutors to make sure that taxpayer money is protected.”

If convicted, Mosley could face up to 10 years in prison and fines totaling $25,000.

The investigation remains ongoing.
