A Natchez man previously arrested for attempted murder was taken into custody Friday night after allegedly assaulting officers outside the Walmart on Seargent S. Prentiss Drive.

Tyrell LeShawn White, 28, known by the street name “TieDye,” was parked illegally in the fire zone outside Walmart around 9:45 p.m. when police ran his vehicle tags and discovered active warrants, Natchez Police Chief Cal Green said.

Officers approached White and asked him to step out of the vehicle. Instead, he attempted to flee, putting his car in gear, Green said. A physical altercation ensued, prompting Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies to assist.

“It’s a good thing that they did,” Green said, expressing gratitude for the deputies’ quick response. “We had an officer a little banged up, but they’re OK.”

White was arrested and charged with simple assault on a law enforcement officer and disorderly conduct. He is being held without bond.

This incident follows White’s arrest on Nov. 27 for a shooting that occurred 10 days earlier on Daisy Street. In that case, Je’Mario Clay, 23, was shot three times, including once in the forehead, while driving. Clay survived, and White was charged with attempted murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle before bonding out of jail.

White remains in custody at the Natchez-Adams County Jail pending further legal proceedings.
