Mississippi deputies arrest man in stolen U-Haul recovered on interstate

Mississippi deputies recovered a stolen U-Haul box truck and arrested a suspect Saturday morning following a traffic stop on I-20.

The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department received an alert around 9:30 a.m. about a possible stolen U-Haul traveling westbound from Scott County into Rankin County. Deputies quickly issued a BOLO (be on the lookout) alert to locate the vehicle.

The truck was spotted near the 56-mile marker on I-20 westbound. Deputies confirmed its stolen status before initiating a traffic stop and apprehending the driver, identified as Jessie Lee Dennis Jr.

The U-Haul had been reported stolen on December 11 from the Capitol City Improvement District. Capitol Police were notified of the vehicle’s recovery.

Dennis was charged with receiving stolen property and transported to the Rankin County Detention Center. His bond has been set at $25,000.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
