An inmate formerly held at a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility has been transferred to the Adams County Jail to await extradition to Texas, where he faces charges of human smuggling.
According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Sergio Armendariz Ibarra, 39, who is wanted by the 63rd District Court of Kenney County in Batesville, Texas. Ibarra is facing two counts of smuggling of persons related to an incident on February 22, 2022.
The warrant reveals that Ibarra was previously issued a $10,000 bond but failed to appear in court on February 26, 2024, to face the charges.
Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said that ICE released Ibarra from the Adams County Correctional Center on US 84 east of Natchez.
“We picked him up from the prison on the warrant and placed a hold on him for the said agency until he signs his extradition waiver. He is being housed at ACSO.”
Ibarra remains in custody at the Adams County Jail pending his transfer to Texas.
