A teenager died in the small community of Ruth near Brookhaven over the weekend after falling from a moving vehicle, authorities said.
Braxton Chatman, 18, of Summit, was pronounced dead at the scene by Lincoln County Coroner Clay McMorris.
It appears Chatman struck his head on the pavement, said Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing.
Rushing said Chatman was in an extended cab truck with four other 18-year-olds shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday. The truck was headed west on Monument Trail headed toward Primitive Drive.
“From what witnesses said, he was trying to climb out the window from the rear passenger side and he slipped and fell while the vehicle was traveling down Monument Trail,” he said.
Rushing said the driver stopped immediately.
The occupants were all from Summit and McComb, he said.
The incident remains under investigation by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
