Mississippi jockey dies after falling from horse at Neshoba County Fair

A Mississippi horse jockey died Thursday from injuries he sustained last Friday during a race at the Neshoba County Fair.
Joe Jernigan, 56, was thrown to the ground in a race when the horse he was riding slipped to its feet.
Jernigan, who lived in Houston, Mississippi, reportedly received multiple injuries during the accident.
“He was a humble, loving, soft-spoken and kindhearted gentleman,” his obituary reads. “He was loved by anybody- family, friends and horsemen alike.”
Funeral wervices will be held at Houston Funeral Home in Houston at 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, 2019 with Dr. Edward Smith officiating.
Jernigan was a veteran jockey with more than 2,000 career starts.
