Two teens were shot to death early Friday morning while sitting in a parked car outside the Kenny Graves Apartment Complex, located just off of U.S. 61 North, officials said.

The victims, 18-year-old Jamesia Brown and 16-year-old Cameron Jones, died early Friday morning with shotgun wounds, Adams County Coroner James Lee said.

Brown had been shot in the chest and was found dead at the scene of the incident and Jones was shot in the head and was transported by ambulance to Merit Health Natchez, where he was later pronounced dead just after 3 a.m. Friday, Lee said.

The victims’ bodies are being transported to the Mississippi State Crime Lab for autopsies, Lee said.

“This is a heartbreaking event,” Lee said, adding his condolences go out to the families of these victims. “The thing that hurts so bad is nobody wins when tragedies like this happen. The entire community, as well as families and friends, lose. I will never give up on prayer. I pray daily for this city and county.”

Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said the Adams County Sheriff’s Office received multiple calls in reference to shots being fired at the apartment complex before 2 a.m. Friday.

“Once deputies arrived at that location, they found two people sitting in a vehicle that had been shot. They called for medical personnel to respond. It was determined that one black female was deceased on the scene and another black male, 16, was transported by ambulance to Merit Health Natchez. He later succumbed to his injuries at Merit Health,” Patten said.

“Right now we do know that there was more than one shooter who approached the vehicle and we have persons of interest that we are looking for in reference to this double homicide. We’re asking for the public to call with any information that can help lead to the capture of the persons responsible or why this happened.”

“This is the first homicide this year in Adams County,” Patten said. “Our investigators have worked throughout the night, and we are going to continue doing everything we can to catch the persons responsible.”
