The Latest: Coronavirus cases keep climbing in Mississippi; record new 7-day daily average

Mississippi’s 7-day average of new COVID-19 coronavirus cases continued to climb higher Saturday based on data released from the Mississippi State Department of Health.
The 7-day average of new cases rose to 276 Saturday after the state reported 288 new cases from the day prior and an additional 12 deaths.
The new 288 cases reported Saturday was down from the record-high reported Friday of 404 new cases.
Saturday’s update brings the total positive cases found in Mississippi to 9,378.
Mississippi’s death toll rose by 12 deaths Saturday bringing the total deaths to 421.
The state reported that 175 deaths were of residents of long-term care facilities or nearly 44 percent of all deaths in the state.
