Mississippi gaming revenue drops, first since sports betting allowed

JACKSON (AP) — Casino revenue fell slightly in Mississippi in November, the first decrease since the start of sports betting in the state.

State revenue department figures show gamblers lost $160 million statewide in November, down less than 1 percent from $161 million in November 2017.

Of that amount, $1.6 million was lost on sports wagers, with $32.8 million in bets placed

Receipts fell to $92 million at the 12 coastal casinos, down 2 percent from November 2017.

Mississippi’s 16 river casinos posted winnings of $67 million, up 2 percent from last year.

Revenue statewide went up 1 percent over the last 12 months, with Gulf Coast casinos showing a 3 percent increase and river casinos showing a 3 percent decrease.

Numbers exclude Choctaw Indian casinos, which don’t report winnings to the state.
