Mississippi man eats forged prescription after police arrest him at pharmacy

VIDALIA, Louisiana — A Natchez man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly falsifying a prescription for a controlled drug substance.

Vidalia police officers arrested Preston Carr, 28, 21 Davis Court, on charges of felony theft by fraud or misrepresentation, theft less $750, obstruction of justice and altering a prescription for a controlled drug substance.

His bond is set at $20,470.

Lt. Miranda Clifton said the Vidalia Police department was contacted by a local pharmacy after the pharmacist had noticed an irregularity on the prescription and made a call to the doctor whose signature was written at the bottom. The doctor confirmed the prescription was a fake.

Police arrested Carr, who had three outstanding warrants, as he waited at the pharmacy for the prescription to be filled.

After arriving at the police department, Clifton said Carr “ate the prescription.”

“When he got to the booking room, the officer laid (the prescription) on the counter to cuff him to the bench, he got a hold of it and ate it,” Clifton said.

Police Chief Joey Merrill said the incident was caught on camera and will not affect his charges.
