The Latest: Mississippi coronavirus deaths, new cases still climbing

The Mississippi State Department of Health’s latest statistics show new cases of COVID-19 coronavirus continue to climb along with deaths related to the virus.
On Sunday morning, the state reported an additional 123 new cases has been confirmed in the last 24 hours bringing the total cases to 9,501. The state believes just under half of the patients found to have coronavirus have recovered.
The state announced Sunday morning 9 new deaths were attributed to the virus bringing the total death toll to 430.
The state reported that 191 deaths were of residents of long-term care facilities or more than 44 percent of all deaths in the state.
The number of patients hospitalized with the virus rose to 447 with another 198 patients suspected of having the virus also hospitalized, but still waiting test result to confirm presence of the virus.
The seven-day average of new cases reported rose to 278, and remains as the highest level since the crisis began in mid-March.
