A driver had to be airlifted with serious injuries after his car collided with an 18-wheeler Wednesday night on a rural Mississippi highway.
The Natchez Democrat reports that the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded at approximately 9:30 p.m. Wednesday to a wreck near Beau Pre Road on U.S. 61 involving an 18-wheeler and a car.
The driver of the black Mercedes, identified as Sonalben Patel, 50, of Natchez, has been airlifted from Merit Health Natchez to Jackson with serious injuries, according to Corporal Craig James, public affairs officer of MHP.
The driver of the 18-wheeler, identified as 36-year-old Adilet Toktobekov from Wheeling, Illinois, was uninjured, James said.
The 18-wheeler, a 2021 Volvo, was northbound on U.S. 61 and the 2017 Mercedes Benz was eastbound attempting to crossover into Beau Pre when the car and 18-wheeler collided in the northbound lane, he said.
