On July 1, squatted vehicles will no longer be allowed on Mississippi roads and highways.

Gov. Tate Reeves signed into law a bill passed by the legislators in the most recent session of the State Legislature.

The ban will take effect on July 1, 2024. 

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety issued a release on Facebook announcing the new law

Under the new law, trucks or vehicles with front fenders raised four inches higher than the rear fenders would be considered a squatted vehicle. 

“Violating this law will result in a misdemeanor, substantial fines and potential license suspension,” DPS wrote. “The main goal of this new law is to keep everyone safe on the roads and encourage safe and smart driving habits. Modifying vehicles in ways that affect visibility isn’t just risky for the drive but for everyone sharing the road.”
