A tragic murder-suicide in a Mississippi hospital parking lot has left a mother and daughter dead, according to police.

Picayune police say the incident occurred around 2:53 p.m. Thursday in the Highland Community Hospital parking lot near the emergency room drop-off.

Officials report that Helena Malone, 61, shot her mother, 79-year-old Helen Plaisance, while the two were inside a car.

After the shooting, Malone called police before turning the gun on herself.

Emergency room personnel rushed both women inside, but despite efforts, they were pronounced dead from their injuries.

Police confirmed that all shots were fired inside the vehicle, and no one else was injured. The weapon used in the shooting has been recovered as the investigation continues.
