An 18-wheeler transporting honeybees overturned early Monday morning in Holmes County.

The accident occurred around 7 a.m. on Interstate 55 near Mile Marker 152, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP).

The truck driver was trapped inside the cab as thousands of bees swarmed the area. The Holmes County Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene and successfully rescued the driver, who was later transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The MHP reported that bees continued to swarm the crash site even after the accident. A beekeeper was called to assist, but efforts to manage the bees were hampered by the chaotic state of the overturned hives, which had fallen into a pile.
