A Mississippi man died Saturday evening following a three-vehicle crash in Rankin County.

The crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. on April 19 in the area of Florence-Byram Road near Flinco Farms Road.

According to Investigator Tyler Burnell with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived on the scene to find one of the vehicles submerged in a nearby pond. The driver of that vehicle was extricated, and lifesaving measures were attempted. However, the driver was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been identified as Rico Funchess of Byram.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office.
